Room of the Month– October 2019

Molly Turner (Newcastle)

“This new look makes me think that I have a new home.”
“I look at the changes and admire them all the time and enjoy opening and closing the windows, which I didn’t before.”

Sensational Solutions:

  1. Why Wilma was called in:
Jim & Molly moved from Toronto to Newcastle over a year ago and wanted new coverings on some of their windows. Molly’s eyes are sensitive to the sun and there were some windows with very bright sunlight coming through. They also desired new window coverings from what was already in the house. The wood shutters in the living room blocked so much of the view and light coming into the home. Wilma did work for Jim & Molly’s daughter, Katherine and her family 11 years ago, who loved the work done by Sensational SEAMS and kept talking about how much better blinds made out of material were.
  2. The Sensational Solution:
Wilma met with Jim, Molly & Katherine to come up with ideas, styles, fabrics and designs that would create a cozy and fresh atmosphere in the home, making it theirs. The Living Room and Dining Room was the first room of the home you walk into, and the cathedral ceiling and arched windows boasted to be highlighted and featured. They were dressed with soft Silhouette Operable Shades that can be lifted out of the way on cloudy days, and the arches were adorned with Open Arch Silhouette Shades with Custom Cornice Boxes in various heights. The side panels softly puddle, creating both height and width to the narrow windows. The Dining Room is given a soft arch as well, unifying the entire room. The Family Room and Kitchen with the open concept have fabrics that co-ordinate and styles that complement the Patio Door and Cathedral Ceiling. Decorative Post Hardware follows the ceiling angle for the pattern-matched fabric panels. Motorized Duette Energy Efficient Shades operate from top and bottom, to control the exact amount of light for the TV and harsh sun for Molly’s sensitive eyes. With Smart Shades, they are programmed to move on their own with time of day, as well as controlled by a simple hand-held remote. The Master Bedroom and Ensuite are also dressed with closing Drapery Panels and a Valance to keep out the harsh west evening sun.
  3. Going Forward:
What a delight it has been to work with Jim & Molly, so appreciative and open to ideas and style that solve their needs as well as give a sense of pride and satisfaction for their home. Molly says, “When the installation was completed, it was amazing and hard to believe that it was the same house. I look at the changes and admire them all the time. The work you have to do installing so many different styles is a work of art. This new look makes me think that I have a new home… and I enjoy opening and closing the window treatments, which I didn’t before. My friends and family use such words as elegant, awesome, beautiful, marvellous, which makes me feel very happy.”
