Bay Window Drapery Meets Smart Style: Master Bedroom and Ensuite Makeover

Instead of jumping into a full-house renovation, they chose to start with just one room – the master bedroom. It was their way of testing the waters, getting a feel for how we work, and seeing if our design style and delivery matched the rave reviews they’d seen online.

 We knew this project was important to them, but it was just as important to us too. We take great pride in our work from the design to the final reveal. We love challenges like this. It gives us a chance to show off our creative style and transform a person’s vision into a reality. So we were excited to dig in and get started.

Framing the View: A Bay Window with everything!

Through our in-person design consultation we got to know what Lexie was looking for. It helps us to see the space and listen to the client describe what they are looking for. I can then show them samples and really get a sense of what they want without overwhelming them during the design process.

The main challenge with this room was the bay window. This is why Lexie was looking for a more custom solution. She had already bought off the rack and was not going to give her what she wanted with the existing blinds not providing enough darkness at night. Lexie dreamed of a window treatment that would completely disappear during the day, giving her a clear, uninterrupted view of the outdoors while providing a blackout solution when she wanted it.

Setting the Stage for Comfort, Privacy and Style

With uniquely shaped windows and evolving interior palettes, this project required more than just good design. It demanded clarity, collaboration, and transparency right from the start…and accurate measurements!

We spent time walking Lexie and Bill through what to expect when working with bay windows. Unlike flat, standard windows, specialty angles can never be completely sealed; there will always be minor light gaps in the corners. Rather than overpromise, we set realistic expectations while assuring them that we would still achieve a significant upgrade.

Their biggest concern was the fabric: they didn’t want light seeping through like it did with their old Venetian blinds. They wanted true room darkening for restful nights and a clean, unobstructed view during the day. Lexie also requested that the drapery fabric be timeless and flexible, able to pair beautifully with whatever bedding or seasonal décor they chose throughout the year.

Every detail was intentional and every conversation with Lexie and Bill built trust. This wasn’t just about solving a window challenge. It was about creating an elevated living space the client was going to be happy with for years to come.

Being transparent and working through the various options is an important part of the process for us so that we can create the right design choices for Lexie. Client satisfaction is what we are looking for every time we step into a space that needs window treatments.

Soft Geometry: Timeless Textures that Adapt with Ease

Together, we selected a subtle geometric pattern that struck just the right balance. Soft, calming and neutral enough to work with any bedding. Yet, interesting enough to add depth and texture to the space. The wave-style drapery brought a graceful flow to the room, tailored perfectly to frame the bay window with a sense of quiet luxury.

For the ensuite, we introduced visual height by extending the treatment beyond the window frame, giving the illusion of a larger space, while still welcoming in natural light.

Where Design Meets Daily Living

To meet the need for light control and privacy, we recommended HunterDouglas Honeycomb shades in a room-darkening fabric. Their cordless operation offers a clean, modern profile and effortless functionality.

Lexie and Bill wanted a sleek finish with no dangling cords or visual clutter, so we selected a cordless lift system that offers both ease of use and a refined aesthetic. With a gentle push or pull, the shades glide into place. And when retracted, they all but disappear into the window frame, preserving the wide-open view Lexie envisioned for daytime hours.

To complement the drapery fabric and wall tones, we chose a contrasting shade colour that added depth without overwhelming the space. The result was a beautiful blend of softness and structure. We wanted to create a layered window treatment that offers the practicality of blackout when needed with the polish of a high-end, designer look every day. Function and style!
