A home is not a home without window treatments!

Hooray, another month has flown by and we’re ready for part two of the Sensational SEAMS project at Allan and Lynda’s beautiful home!
Phase two kicks off with a grand entry — literally! As you step inside, you’re welcomed by a charming little entry window treatment that also greets you as you head upstairs.
DESIGN PHASE
For this custom window project, we wanted to select a fun and cheerful fabric that would not only tie the space together but also offer a warm, welcoming feel for the homeowners and their guests. Since the custom drapery in the living and dining rooms had a cheerful pop of red, we continued that lively colour theme along the main floor.
At the Sensational SEAMS showroom, with our extensive library of designer fabric books, I searched for just the right look. I pulled a book filled with beautiful greens, blues, and ornate patterns — perfect for a bold yet elegant fabric window treatment. After flipping through the options, I made note of a few standouts to present to Allan and Lynda.
When we met that Saturday to finalize their selections for the remainder of their home décor updates, I brought my top fabric samples. I started by showing them a stunning bird print fabric featuring the perfect pop of red — and it was love at first sight! Though we considered a few other fabric options, none compared to that first one. We had found the perfect choice for their custom cornice box window treatment.
To do the beautiful bird print justice, we selected a flat cornice box style with a stepped corner detail for added visual interest.
THE ROOMS
Upstairs – Office and Master Bedroom
Next, we needed to choose the perfect decorative piping — the detail that can make or break a custom design. Like picking the best topping for an ice cream sundae, it’s optional… but it makes everything even better! We explored various companion colours from our custom fabric collection — bold reds, deep blues, and rich tans. Ultimately, a soft tan piping was selected, perfectly enhancing the main fabric without overpowering it, creating a warm and inviting entryway design.
Moving upstairs, the home offices needed a different touch. Allan selected a rich tan and brown-hued custom drapery fabric that perfectly suited his workspace, while Lynda chose inspiring bright blues and yellows to energize her office. For both offices, we installed Hunter Douglas Silhouette® Shades to provide UV protection, reduce glare on computer screens, and allow maximum light control — essential for both work and relaxation.
Since both rooms double as guest bedrooms, we added the DuoLite® feature to their Silhouette shades, offering room-darkening privacy so guests can enjoy a restful sleep. This thoughtful feature ensures their family will want to stay longer and visit more often!
THE ROOMS
Master Bedroom, Guest Bedrooms and Ensuite Bathroom
In the master bedroom, we continued the theme of custom luxury window treatments. We selected an elegant embroidered fabric featuring delicate stitched leaf branches — a nod to Allan and Lynda’s love for travel and the outdoors. It transformed their master suite into a soft, serene oasis retreat.
To tie in the ensuite bathroom, we used the same beautiful embroidery fabric for the custom window coverings, but paired it with a bold contrasting blue to add a splash of vibrancy. We enhanced privacy and maintained an airy view with Hunter Douglas Silhouette® Shades with ClearView® Sheers, providing a crystal-clear view of the outdoors while preserving privacy.
THE RESULTS
Installation day at Allan and Lynda’s was such a joy! Watching the handcrafted cornice boxes, custom drapery panels, and Hunter Douglas window shades come to life was pure magic. I carefully steamed each fabric to ensure a perfectly tailored look, leaving Allan and Lynda with a refreshed, magazine-worthy home makeover.
Special care and attention was taken to place the fabric pattern in the perfect spot, highlighting all the colours and patterns. We added side cascades to soften the edges, and detailed the matching of the pattern so it continued across the window treatment. A contrasted coloured fabric was used to pipe the top and line the cascades that flip forward showing just the right amount of enhanced detail accents, giving a wonderful creative and luxury look.
