A home is not a home without window treatments!

Written by Tamara Kulyk, Window Treatment & Automation Specialist

I was called in by Allan and Lynda to their home shortly after they completed their main floor renovation. It was super exciting to see the new finishes and get introduced to their taste, style and personality. Right from the get-go I felt welcomed and right at home. I knew this was a feeling that needed to be replicated throughout their space so their guests felt the same feeling I did.

THE ROOMS

After discussing with Allan and Lynda some of the needs that they had for their living room and Dining Room, the need to cut the brightness of the sun but still enhance the view to the yard and park behind their home, I knew that the Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades would be a solid contender. They also had completed the renovations with new flooring and I was sure this was something they would love to protect with the added UV control of Silhouette.

We looked at a Silhouette ClearView hand sample in a beautiful blue colour and instantly they were in love, knowing it was a perfect fit for the space. I told them of Silhouette’s beautiful companion, HunterDouglas Luminette Privacy Sheers, for the patio door and explained how they tie in with one another and come in the same colour and fabrics for a seamless look throughout the space.

Allan and Lynda expressed to me that they originally had drapery valances across the flat portion of the bay and that it was a favoured look to add above. Knowing before that the valance was across the straight, I suggested that with the new style and option, we look to contour with the shape of the Bay to accentuate the uniqueness and character of the windows. They loved the idea.

While chatting about different styles of fabrics, they told me about their many travels, how they love the outdoors and camping, and how they wanted to bring that serenity to their living space in the home. I knew I had the perfect fabric! A soft leaf and branch pattern with a modern twist. From my bag, I pulled out a new collection of fabric samples that had just come in, a newfound favourite pattern of mine and I knew they would fall in love with it as well. Flipping through the colour sku’s we stopped at the beautiful grey, blue and red colour combination. It was perfect. The soft greys in the fabric tied the flooring and other colours throughout the main floor together while adding the pop of blue to complement the selected shade and cabinetry in the powder room. The background colours of the fabric also went beautifully well with the newly painted walls.

For the living room, we chose to continue the soft fold style of the Luminette with stationary drapery panels to frame the window with pattern and colour while flipping the style horizontally with a faux roman shade valance within the bay. Exciting! Now to get sewing.

THE RESULTS

The first installation day came and what a teaser it was, the drapery was not yet fully completed however the shades had arrived from HunterDouglas. We opted to split the project into two installations to ensure they had the privacy they desired while waiting for the remainder. Jamie and Liam completed the install smoothly and efficiently, Allan and Lynda were pleased and excited for the next phase.

The second installation was truly the icing on the cake. Jamie and I worked hand in hand to get the drapery installed. While Jamie screwed up brackets and boards and all the hardware, I was hard at work hanging the valances and drapery panels and adding the hardware, I was hard at work hanging the valances and drapery panels and adding the sensational touch throughout. Making sure everything hung perfectly, was steamed into place and was as tip top tailored as planned and laid out.
